Facing a kingside fianchetto

When Black fianchettoes against the Colle, White can still play the standard setup with a timely c3 and dxc5.

Common mistakes & traps

Pawn structure notes

White typically has pawns on d4, e3, and c3 forming a solid pyramid. The kingside is well-defended by the bishop on d3. After the e4 break, White often gets a strong center and kingside attacking chances.

Tips

  • Black's ...g6 setup doesn't force White to change the standard Colle development
  • White plays c3 to support the center and may exchange on c5 for piece play
  • The b4 advance gains space on the queenside
