Bishop's Opening C23–C24
An aggressive flank development of the king's bishop
Urusov Gambit
The Bishop's Opening is one of the oldest openings in chess, dating back to the 16th century. By developing the bishop to c4 before committing the knight, White keeps flexible options including transpositions to the Italian Game, Vienna Game, or sharp gambit lines.
It's a flexible alternative to the Italian Game that keeps more options open. The Bishop's Opening can lead to sharp gambit play or quiet positional games, making it suitable for players who want to avoid heavy theory while still getting active piece play.
